Description
The Dokra Adivasi Couple – Big is a striking tribal metal sculpture representing a traditional tribal man and woman. The figurines feature intricate patterns, elongated forms, and rustic textures that are characteristic of Dokra craftsmanship.
The sculpture beautifully captures the essence of tribal life and culture through its simple yet expressive design. With its antique metallic finish and handcrafted detailing, it serves as an elegant decorative piece that celebrates India’s rich tribal heritage.
Craftsmanship & Origin
Dokra (Dhokra) craft is an ancient tribal metal casting tradition practiced by artisans in West Bengal and surrounding regions. The craft uses the lost-wax casting technique, where a detailed wax model of the sculpture is first created.
The wax model is coated with a mixture of clay and rice husk to form a mold. When heated, the wax melts away and molten metal is poured into the mold cavity. Natural materials such as coal, tree resin, and nut oil are used during the process. After cooling, the clay mold is broken to reveal the final handcrafted sculpture.
Because the mold is broken during casting, every Dokra Adivasi Couple sculpture is unique.
